Responsibilities

Oversee production schedule: assign content; establish deadlines; communicate with writers, editors, typesetter, printer, and graphic designer; proof submissions; schedule meetings for editorial and intern staff. Manage Submittable system for assignment of pieces to readers and editors. Send rejection/acceptance letters. Track author contracts, payments, and contact information. Supervise team of 5-8 interns: training on how to select works of fiction/poetry/ essay, training on Submittable, team building activities, sharing opportunities for participation in online content.

Subscription management: Maintaining list of over 500 subscribers, and keeping track of subscription payments, fulfilling and mailing online orders of magazine, missing/damaged issues.

Coordinate outreach including prize and special topics issues events announcements, promotion at AWP, application for literary awards, launch of online magazine, development of promotional materials.

Fundraising: grant applications, develop a donor strategy and maintain donor database.

Administrative support: Mail distribution, respond to phone/email queries about submission and payment status, literary agents, special issue/contest guidelines, submission periods, etc.

NOTE: This is a term-limited position until June 2020. Extension might be possible thereafter.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or a related field, or 2-4 years of related experience.

Ability to handle multiple deadlines simultaneously. Demonstrated experience in project management and working in teams. Excellent communication skills and proven attention to detail.

Desired Qualifications

Prior supervision of a team; publishing and event planning experience.
